From 2008 to 2013 Matthew served with the Iowa Army National Guard 168th Infantry Unit out of Council Bluffs, Iowa as a communication specialist and was deployed to Afghanistan from 2010 to 2011. Full time, Matthew works for Common Spirit Health in their Centralized HR Operations Department. Married with two beautiful daughters, Matthew is a typical middle-class family man and disabled veteran with a permanent injury who faced challenges in affording medical care. When Matthew’s father, who is also a veteran and currently retired, faced his owed medical issue struggling to afford medical care, Matthew had an idea. The realization was that veterans from all eras struggle with the bureaucracy and high costs of medical care, that our veterans should never have to choose between providing basic needs for their family or the medical care they need, this is when The Malmberg Foundation was born.
